joint offsets

Dear Team,

How can I provide joint offsets in STKO as there is no option of joint offsets

Dear Zeeshan,
the joint offset is available in the physical property.
You can see it at the end of the attributes available in the elastic section, or in the rectangular fiber section, or in the fiber section.

Thank You Francesa. But the offset command that is available in fibre or elastic section is section offset not joint offset.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

sorry our offices were closed the last two weeks.
In reference to the joint offset you want to apply. We did not include it as an option in STKO, but you can check the following tutorials on how to create joint offsets either manually or with the automatic RC joint element.

I am trying to model the beam-column joint as per ASCE 7, where it is recommended to provide the rigid joint offsets as per the following condition.

here is an example of how you can include the joint offset you are discussing.

You need to use the RCJointModel special purpose and RCJointModel3DElement to achieve what you want. You need to define a stiff material with a very large E to simulate the rigidity you want and then assign a penalty parameter in the joint material to attach the beam with the column.

Dear Francesa,

Thank you for your suggestion. But I guess using the JOINT offset command already available in OpenSees would have been way better if it has been made available in STKO. Because using such high stiff material may turn the matrix ill-posed.

If you defined the high stiffness in reference to the order of magnitude of stiffness you have in your model you can avoid numerical problems of convergence or ill conditioned models

We will discuss if including the joint offset in the future anyway.
