Static Frame Analysis Did not Converge

Post by Kate_Rhoades » Thu May 18, 2023 7:48 pm

Hello, I have been enjoying the webinar series and learning STKO. I am trying to build a very simple model from scratch. A single 3D bay with a static distributed load on a rigid diaphragm. I am certain this should be very simple to model and analyze, however, I am running into nonconvergence problems in my analysis.

I would expect to see the load traveling from the face to the beams to the columns. I have been primarily viewing the models from the Week 4 and Week 12 webinars to understand how to perform this static analysis.

My plan after confirming I can confirm the static analysis is working is to perform a dynamic analysis. Are there any tips or solutions to common mistakes to consider as I start dynamic analysis?

Finally, I have tried to download some of the sample projects on the Asdea website, and I am met with a 404 error message: https://asdea.eu/software/stko-model-database/ Is there another way I can view these models?

Thank you in advance for all of your help

Hi Kate,

Thank you for your notice about the sample projects on our website and the 404 error message. It should work now.

Regarding your model, you didn't assign element properties to the beams.

Also, you created nodes in the middle of beams and you assigned to them a rigid diaphragm. Please look at the corrected file.

You can check the forum for the dynamic analysis otherwise, let us know if you have any troubles.

Best,
Valentina

Ahhhh, ok, thank you so much for catching this mistake! I will be more careful of ensuring element assigns in the future!

Ok, and when I am modeling the rigid diaphragms, the connection from the lead to follower nodes should be from the edges of the face/columns to the center of the diaphragm/face. I think this makes sense, thank you so much.

Thank you as well for checking the website, I look forward to viewing the sample projects!
