Daer Stko,
But if you place springs there then the inner soil domain will also influence the FF domain... which should not happen. since the FF is assumed to be far from the inner soil domain.
If I defined a combined artificial boudary that composed of viscous artificial boundary and shear soil column, the main soil domain will not influence the free filed? They are connected via series viscous dashpots, I think the stress of main soil domain also influence the free filed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGII3a0gQqI&t=4238s.I would really appreciate it if you could help me out with this.

Best regards,
Jiaxing

That's the reason why we implemented the automation ASDAbsorbing boundary.
The theory says that the dashpot should be used just to absorb outgoing waves, so it refers only to the soil.
On the other end, the stress of the free field should be transferred to the soil (and not vice-versa).
If you read the reference article at the bottom of the ASDAbsorbing Boundary documentation page it explains this better

Agreed. The ASDAbsorbing element presented by stko is an advantaged method, while the ff-LK boudary mentioned above is not rigorous. It cannot absorb the outward wave effectively, because the soil domain can also influence the free filed. The webinar cannot act as a benchmark ,and it is necessary to comment the drawback to the above webinar by the developer.

Yes in fact I think we talked about the "limitation" of the manual method (FF-LK) during the webinar of the ASDAbsorbingBoundaryElement

Dear STKO,
Thanks for your reply. I think a detailed list for the limitation should be provided. I take a comparision of the seismic respones calculated under these two methods, finding a largest error can reach 10-20 times.

Can you show the details of this comparison here?
It can be useful for other users

OK, I will summarized the difference between these two methods, and post it here. But it may be somedays latter.
