outcrop motion at the base of the soil continuum

Dear team STKO,

There are some generic questions of mine. Suppose we want to apply a ground motion (GM) (downloaded from the PEER website) at the base of a soil continuum model.
1/ As most of the GM records are recorded at the surface, to use that GM data at the base, deconvolution is to be done ...

FATAL:second_order_eqn: Complex roots. when moving active surface.

Dear Team STKO,

What is the meaning of the following error:
"FATAL:second_order_eqn: Complex roots.
when moving active surface.
B2=8.34901e-23 4AC=9.37715e-23"?

NB: I am conducting a ground response analysis under seismic loading.

Re: Unstability of solution when thickness too high

Hello team STKO,

Could you kindly clarify the significance of element thickness in plane-strain elements? I tried searching this forum, but there is not much information regarding this topic. I carried out a 2D pile-soil interaction analysis and tried to validate the model with an experiment. At ...

Re: Regarding Absorbing boundary result

Hello team STKO,

I am simulating a single pile-soil centrifuge test carried out by Gohl (1991) for validation purpose. I have tried both 2D and 3D models and here are a few doubts regarding the problems I am facing.

1. In 2D model, I cannot use beam-to-solid-coupling right? Because it is made for ...

Re: Regarding Absorbing boundary result

Thank you for your reply.

If at the bottom interface you have bedrock, just create 2 ASDAbsorbingBoundaryMaterials, one with the soil properties (sides) and one with the bedrock properties (bottom)

Ok, I will do it.

We are planning to update the source code of the ASDAbsorbingBoundary in ...

Re: Regarding Absorbing boundary result

Hello team STKO,

As it is known to us that STKO's automated LK boundaries automatically identify the bottom and side boundaries. Since the bedrock shear-wave velocity and density are much higher than the soil, and the material for LK boundaries is defined only for soil, I wanted to know how STKO is ...
